The Lakefront location of Colectivo occupies an 1888 Victorian Revivalâstyle building made of Cream City brick. The building was formerly the Milwaukee River Flushing Station.
The midcentury Bradford Pavilion, designed by county architect Gilbert Grunwald, has served generations of beachgoers at Bradford Beach.
Keep walking toward the beach at the bottom of the hill. Take a left, crossing North Lincoln Memorial Drive at the pedestrian walk located at the beach, and then right (south).
In about half a mile youâll come to Bradford Beach, one of Milwaukee Countyâs largest urban beaches. It offers cabana rentals, volleyball courts, summertime events, and concessions from The Dock, located inside the Bradford Pavilion. Thereâs also a custard and burger stand called MooSaâs directly across the south parking lot. The name of this restaurant, painted like a cow, is a portmanteau of moo and the ownerâs name, Nas Musa, whose family also owns the local Casablanca restaurants on Brady Street and in the suburbs.
McKinley Beach is a smaller beach south of Bradford, with a playground for kids and picnic tables. Developed along with Bradford in the early 1900s, McKinley Beach is now a lesser-known, and therefore quieter, spot for relaxing on the sand.
The beach is next to McKinley Marina, the only public marina in Milwaukee, featuring 655 boat slips. The breakwater, made from large stones removed from numerous Wisconsin quarries, runs out into the lake for half a mile to protect the marina and the boat launch from the open waters.
Next to the marina is the private Milwaukee Yacht Club. It opened in 1871, making it the oldest yacht club on Lake Michigan. The clubhouse has a dining hall/restaurant, a bar and lounge, a pool, event space, and more.
Continue walking south along North Lincoln Memorial Drive back to Lagoon Drive.
